Adult Day Service offers our participants a variety of projects each day that will offer enriching engagement, aid in social and behavioral skills, as well as creative engagement.

Our participants get to be the designer or their own cookbook while learning to cook nutritious meals. We also assist them to shop, compare prices, purchase their items, and check the recipe for accuracy before they create their culinary masterpieces.

Day Services at the HUB - Activities

Art Projects

We will be exploring a variety of mediums while working on social skills, gaining self-awareness and using fine motor skills. Our focus areas are drawing, painting, crafts including musical instruments, sewing, photography, as well as in creative building. We will be working on individual projects as well as group projects to help individuals with social skills. We will offer a yearly open house so others can see our hard work in the art field and work on ways to give back to the community.

Volunteering

This is a great way to give back to the community and learn pre-vocational skills! We will volunteer at a variety of places including a horse farm, wolf sanctuary, food pantries, libraries, parks, and a cat shelter.

Organic Gardening

Participants can feel good about helping to grow this organic garden from seeds.
Teamwork is a big part of making it a success! Watering, weeding, giving it organic nutrition and watching it grow. We will learn when to pick vegetables and fruit and get to eat from our own garden! We will also share our skills with the local pantry garden!! Wow, how rewarding. We will work on skill building, peer interaction, community integration, socialization, physical well-being, and self-esteem.

Game Club

In our game club we will be building a variety of games to promote team interaction,
self-awareness, self-esteem, socialization while promoting friendships and fun! Some areas included are Dungeons & Dragons, computer gaming, lawn games, table games, homemade games, and “Minute to Win it" game.

Community Recreation

Activities to help build physical fitness, self-esteem and self-worth as well as social interaction, skill building, teamwork while enjoying the outside by becoming physically fit. Some of these activities include hiking, walking, jogging, yoga, swimming, exercising, playing sports, bird watching, light house exploring, walking on the beach and making sandcastles, fishing, dancing for fun, snow shoeing, sledding, and making snow sculptures etc.

Yoga / Meditation

Is it time for you to relax and enjoy a little time to center yourself? This class will do that. You do not need to be physically fit just have a willingness to participate in a rejuvenating experience. During a typical yoga class participants are asked to sit on a mat and focus on deep breathing skill and yoga poses. This class is built for anyone and can cater to all participants. Participants will be working social skills by interacting with others and daily skills and self-discipline.

Self-Advocacy

The self-help service will help to teach life skills in a holistic approach. We look at the different areas of the self which impact the whole person. How can we be the best person we can be! We learn the different phases of self and try to cater to those human needs. Areas we address are emotional, physical, social, financial, environmental,
occupational, spiritual and intellectual. We learn to chart out goals for each of these needs and to use them in our daily lives thus becoming “the best me” I can be!

Adventure day

Generations supports monthly adventure days to inspire and enrich. Some include trips to the museum, trolley rides, train rides, musical night, movies, trip to Boston, baseball games, theater, Prescott Park in Portsmouth, Portland’s musicals, Christmas plays, high school plays, etc.

ADULT SERVICES

Home Support

Home Support is a service for adults under the section 29 or 21 waivers. Generations has a robust day service that provides community support at a ratio of 1 to 3 clients for each direct support professional. Home Supports is a 1-to-1 model. It’s often a supplemental service, designed to focus on things that are not applicable in the community. Keeping a safe, clean and organized home is a useful skill often addressed in Home Supports. So is grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking.

Some clients choose to use Home Supports to do their budgeting, make medical appointments, or pursue a skill or passion. The individual focus from a direct support professional and the flexibility of the service are great for meeting individualized goals of adult members in their own homes.

ADULT SERVICES

Shared Living

Shared Living is a service for adults under Section 29 or 21 waivers. Like our community and home support services, members have a treatment plan that focuses on important goals like budgeting, social outreach, employment and daily independence. But in this service, the member lives with their provider. In many cases, but not all, that provider is a parent or guardian of the adult member. Members are provided with support from a person who already knows and cares for them, and caretakers are compensated for a role they may already want and need to fulfill. Shared living providers are given training and supervision from our team at Generations to help members achieve independent lives that fit goals of their choosing.

Our shared living services help connect adult individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities with a provider in a family type one-on-one setting. This is a residential service and is provided in the home of the provider. The individual and the provider will work on goals laid out in the individuals person centered plan. These goals are home based, but can be used in the community. Goals can include meal prep and plan, budgeting, personal care, medication administration, and transportation to appointments.

Childrens Services

CHILDRENS SERVICES

Section 28

The section 28 children’s waiver, or Rehabilitative and Community Support Services, is a service aimed at building skills for children with a qualifying disability. Members range in age from 3 to 20, and the treatment plans are suited to their individual needs. Many of our members work with their behavioral health professionals (BHP) on social scenarios, coping skills, conflict resolution, daily living skills, food aversions, empathy skills, problem solving, de-escalation, recognizing emotions and intentions in others, health habits, basic conversational skills, and much more.

This is a 1-to-1 service where a member and their BHP can form a connection while addressing important goals. BHPs are trained and supervised by Generations, and the work takes place in the home, in the community, and in group events with other peers and BHPs. Group activities at Generations are a fun way to make friends in a safe, supportive environment, and hone social skills that can be used in any setting.
